Last week we traveled to Hilton Head for the annual Staab family vacation. My parents rented a house on the beach this year which made it super easy to get to the beach. So, Sam went to the beach 5 of the six days we were there (the other day was spent at a playground). Sam loved the ocean and sand. He would walk straight into the ocean without fear. I insisted on holding his hand, but this really frustrated him. He also enjoyed digging in the sand with his shovel. He would dump the sand on himself or in his bucket. (It's so much easier to write about the beach than it is actually going to the beach. There's sunscreen, toys, chairs...Worth it, but still work.)
Two of Sam's cousins, Olivia (5 years old) and William (turned 1 while in HH) were there for the week too. Poor Olivia was sick for a couple days, and William had a hard time adjusting to the time change, but Sam enjoyed his playmates.
It was adorable when Sam met Olivia. She walked in the house, said hello, and Sam ran to her and gave her a hug. Besides the beach, the men golfed and we all ate a ton of food. We had excellent weather all week, and the tides were perfect. Low tide was after noon every day, so it made for a wide open beach. Plus, there was a little "lagoon" (my name for it) created when the water eroded the sand and left a little pool of water. It was hot water, but perfect for a little toddler to splash around.
Alas, we are home. But not for long. Next week we head up to Pittsburgh to visit the Ribars. Lord help us for an 8 plus hour car ride with a child who refuses to sleep in his car seat and hates being in his car seat for a long time! We're going to purchase a portable DVD in the hopes it will entertain Sam. If anyone has other ideas, we'd greatly appreciate the advice. Not much else is happening. My favorite time of the year is fast approaching, September through Christmas. I love fall and the holidays! There are many new August photos.
