This past weekend we took a road trip to Philadelphia to see our friends Harold and Kris get married. Since we were going that way, and since we wanted to break up the drive, we used the trip as an opportunity to visit Mark and Jen and their kids in Northern Virginia. We arrived at their house Thursday evening. Jake (2 years old) enjoyed showing Sam all his toys. But unfortunately Dave's godson Mark Jr (soon to be 4) was under the weather and nursing a broken arm, so he spent most of the time resting. We had a nice time staying with them, although it was too short.
The next morning we got up and headed to Philadelphia. There we met up with Terri, Dan and baby Stella, who were also attending the wedding. Stella is exactly 2 months older than Sam, and this was their first meeting. Stella held his little hand and it was very sweet. After a great lunch with awesome pizza, we headed to the wedding. As a groomsman, Dave went first with the rest of the wedding party. And Melanie, Terri, and the babies drove separately. Dan arrived later, since he had to go shopping to buy pants for the occasion (because someone forgot to pack them).
The wedding was typical Harold and Kris. A little unconventional, a little chaotic, and a lot of fun. The wedding and reception were outdoors, but even with the cool weather and loud music, Sam passed out a little after 7 in his dad's arms.
On Sunday morning we made the 10 hour drive back to Charlotte. It was sad to say goodbye to our friends. Thankfully, we made it through the weekend with no incidents on the road. And all in all, Sam was happy amidst the changes. Although his schedule was off, he managed to sneak in a few naps and he slept relatively well every night. He didn't even seem to mind all the driving. His parents, on the other hand, never want to get in a car again.
Then, when we arrived in town we had a visit from Melanie's good friend Lynne! She was in town on business (she resides in Atlanta), so we were able to spend an evening catching up over dinner. It was great to see her and show her how big Sam has gotten since the last time she visited.
The other big development when we got back in town was that Sam started solids. A big yummy bowl of rice cereal (well, it was more like a few teaspoon-fuls). Of course it was very messy since he hasn't perfected the use of a spoon or the tongue motion needed to keep the food in his little mouth, but so far so good. I plan to breastfeed until his one year birthday, and that is still working out okay as well. Check out our October photos.
