2 Years Old!
It's hard to believe Sam is already 2 years old. Fittingly, we celebrated twice. On April 10th, we had the official party with homemade cake (well, cupcakes) and presents. We had the party this day because Nunny and Pap Pap Ribar were flying out the next morning. Then, on April 11th, we sang Happy Birthday again and gave Sam a second chance to blow out candles. This time, he blew out the candles all by himself.

Sam seemed to enjoy his birthday (we think we heard him say "Happy Birthday" at one point), and he definitely enjoyed his numerous presents. The grandparents really came through. The Ribar's got him a tricycle, which he loves.
And the Staab's got him a clubhouse box (Sam later learned that there was a kitchen set that came along with the box).

2 Ribar GrandparentsNunny and Pap Pap flew in from Pittsburgh last week to meet Elizabeth and celebrate Sam's birthday. We all had a good time, and once again it was great having an extra set of baby sitters. Sam warmed up to Nunny and Pap Pap immediately. He really wore them out, or maybe it was the other way around. It was a rare moment when at least one grandparent wasn't playing with or holding a grandchild. We're very happy that our kids get along with all four grandparents.
2 Hour VisitOur friends Mark and Jen stopped by for lunch the day after Easter. They were driving back to Virginia from Florida, and we're happy they took the 2+ hour detour to Charlotte. We haven't seen them since 2008, and their three children (one of which, Mark Jr, is Dave's godson) have really grown. Sam spent the entire visit chasing around the older boys. After they left, he cried for a while, then quickly fell asleep for a long nap.
#2For a while now, Melanie and I have been worried about Sam playing with his diaper after a #2. Well, this happened a couple mornings ago after Sam woke up in his room. Sam stuck his hand down his diaper, and it came out dirty. Luckily, he was turned off by this. He held out his dirty hand and cried. Then he used his clean hand to knock on his bedroom door to get mommy or daddy's help (we have a safety cap on Sam's doorknob so he can't get out at night). We're so glad he asked for help, because this could have turned out much worse.
2 Kids
Sam recently had his 2-year doctor checkup, and all is well. Little Elizabeth is also doing well. She has a doctor's appointment this Friday, and by my count, she will be close to 9 lbs! Not bad after starting at 6 lbs, 4 oz. Liz is starting to ramp up her crying, but so far we have been able to manage.
Together, the kids are still getting along. I think this picture says it all.
There are a couple new photos in the March 2010 photo gallery, and a ton of new ones in the April 2010 gallery.
