We had a special Independence Day. A Marine in our neighborhood came home from Iraq on July 4th, and we surprised him by lining the streets to his house. Our HOA organized the event, and the local news stations were there to cover it. Sam wore his special Fourth of July outfit (see the 6/25 post), and Sienna even came with us. We're in this crowd somewhere, but you can't see us. We personally don't know the Marine, but it was great to be there to show him our support.
For the rest of the day, we stayed home and had our own little cookout. Sam couldn't stay awake for the fireworks, but he has a lot to look forward to in the coming years. From our back porch, we had a pretty good view of many different firework shows. We're not sure which shows we were watching, and we're not even sure how many (there were at least four). All we know is that there were fireworks going off well into the night, and you could see them left, right, and center. Next July 4th: party at our house!
On Saturday the 5th, we had another cookout, this time with friends at a small park in South Carolina. Burgers and Frisbee and children (and heat and humidity and bugs). Very American.
We've had an enjoyable holiday weekend, and we still have one day to go. God Bless the U.S.A.
