Next was Melanie's long-awaited Lasik surgery. Everything went well, and she is now glasses-free.
For the long July 4th weekend, we paid a visit to Northern Virginia. First we visited Dave's old roommate Mark and his three kids (Dave's godson Mark Jr 6, Jake 4, and Ava 2).
We were only there for the afternoon, but the kids had a fun time. The highlights were: homemade pizza, a walk in the woods, water guns, batting practice, a well-needed nap for Liz, and drum solos by Jake and Sam. Sam was a natural with the drumsticks, banging them together and counting off 1-2-3-4 before he went into his solo.
After that, we stayed two nights with Melanie's old roommate Terri, and her husband Dan and two girls (Stella 3 and Nina 9 months).
Terri and Dan's new house is in Burke, which is where Dave used to own a house. It was great seeing the old neighborhood. We (Dave and Melanie) jogged around Lake Braddock and to Dave's old house, and later all of us went to Burke Lake Park for some family fun. The most fun the kids had was back at the house, where they had a dance party, with Liz in her first-ever pigtails.
In all, it was a great trip and we relived some good memories, and made some new ones. We made it back to Charlotte for the Fourth, and watched fireworks through our window (since it was a rainy night). We let Sam stay up to watch for a while, but he wasn't that into it.
When we returned from our trip, there was a surprise package in the mail. Zach presented Sam with an official scooter driving license. (Sorry it's turned sideways.)
