Don't Fence Me In

Our area rug came in last week, and with the baby gates already in place, we finally converted our dining room into a playroom. Now Sam can freely play downstairs while mom gets dinner ready and dad balances the checkbook. Well that's the theory anyway -- so far, Sam only likes to play in there if someone is in the room with him. When he's left alone, he crawls immediately to the nearest gate and tries to get out. (Sam is definitely on the move now-- he crawls everywhere). Meanwhile, Sienna spends all of her time trying to get in. Poor dog. She whined while looking for an opening in the gate. Then she ran around to the other gate and whined. Then she got one of her toys and brought it to the gate to Sam. Finally, she just lay down and sulked.

Sam and Sienna's relationship is growing. Sienna comes to us when we bring Sam down in the morning (Sienna never goes upstairs, so she has to wait for us to come down) to sniff him and make sure he's alright. And Sam loves the dog and wants nothing more than to pet her. But Sienna must not like his touch, because she runs away as soon as he reaches for her. They are becoming best friends.
